As I said in a previous post, I visited Riga twice, one on a holiday, and once on a work trip.

Well, as many others say I have to agree that there are many beautiful girls and some were giving me smiles while walking around the city. At a club, forgot its name, I was minding my own business when a girl came over, planted a kiss on my lips and left...can I complain?

Others came over to chat me up, and once a girl came to chat me up even while I was already chatting to another!

In the beginning of October I am visiting again....don't want to sleep around but will try to get into a serious relationship, hopefully, try to keep it alive through long distance for a short time, and maybe one of us will make a move to the other's country...call me a dreamer!

Dreams often come true, you know. Specially if you want them to come true.

Whatever I could say so far besides "thanks for the visit and welcome again", is you still need to be careful in Riga night clubs. Girls will not kiss you just for a case. Mostly this is related to consuming business; we already have few of discussions about it. Be careful and watch through. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice I know what you mean. I forgot the name of the place where the girls kissed me, but it was not a touristy place at all; I remember it was very near the Sculpture of the Town Musicians of Bremen. Anyway, maybe she was off duty on that day

May I ask another thing, I will arrive in Riga on Thursday night, actually it will be Friday 2am. Will there be any night-life? And what about Monday to Wednesday?

Sunday to Thursday = almost no nightlife. Many clubs are opened even only on Fridays and Saturdays.

I'm not sure how it is now, but earlier, Saturday's evening was the most visited in night clubs. This is the time when local people are having next day free, so they could party for the whole night.

Good luck, and don't forget to share your impressions meaning you will "remember" the Club's title and maybe create some funny pics... you're welcome

Hello all,

I am back from Riga, and have enriched my impressions about Latvian girls.

It is possible to meet girls throughout the week in bars. They can be approached in a friendly manner, and in no way I got the impression that they are dying to find a foreigner to save them from this 'poor' country.

Unfortunately the girls I met where young for me, since I am 38. The mature ones I believe venture in more elusive places than bars during the week.

All around the city you can see beautiful girls passing by every now and then, some do give a look but I always sensed a barrier, maybe I am too shy to stop someone in the street and chat up.

Many seem to marry at a very young age, maybe it is considered a dishonour not to be married, I don't know.

Anyway, Riga's beautiful as always.

It is perfectly ok not to be married, we are not an India for god's sake's. Latvian women are not whores who marry for money, well, maybe some but all countries have their gold diggers.

Northern Europeans like to keep ot to themselves, none of that : "how are you" and empty eyed teeth smiling at everyone.

Plomb, you make me sick, keep your Kremlin opinion to your self, it is all russian propaganda, pre-occupied Latvia was economically stable, we would be like west europe now if only soviets didn't steal our stuff and slave us. You make me so sick, the people you identify with sent my grandparents to Siberia and stole their homes and businesses.. You really make me physically sick, the worl should know what a moral less monster you are.

latviangirl212:
keep your Kremlin opinion to your self

You are just another anonymous trying to teach me what to keep and how to live? Go fuck yourself.

latviangirl212:
it is all russian propaganda

What you have written above, purely appears NATO- and US-based propaganda!

latviangirl212:
we would be like west europe now if only soviets didn't steal our stuff and slave us

We would be... we could be...
You could eat mushrooms if they would grow in your mouth, but they doesn't.

You were having more than 20 years for your acclaimed Freedom, it is 1/3 of the time when you were "occupied" by USSR, and you have DESTROYED everything which was build by USSR, you still didn't fix the roads which are AWFUL, you still use the old USSR-build trains with a non-hygienic toilets, you still live in the same buildings, and sell the new apartments like Latvia would be Miami in price, which it is not. Just look at the streets, how dirty, broken and stinky they are - European Union country??? Now look at the politics - 1/3 of the root country citizens can't vote since 1991 - is it a democracy? The people screams: we don't want Euro coming in RIGHT NOW - politicians MAKE IT to appear in 2014 - is it a democracy? Latvians, for all the times, WERE SLAVES, to Germans, Poles, Swedes, RUSSIANS - it appears they have LOST the ability to think on their own!!!

And take a note - you still have an assumption to TEACH others how to live and what to do! Check above my first saying...

Now look at the book shops - you won't find a book by LATVIAN authors for kids, all stuff is a translation from Disneys, Harry Potatoes, Spider-Men and so on - WHERE ARE THE PROOFS OF WHAT ARE YOU SAYING? Just stop this crazy philosophy and try to re-wash your brains in another direction.

You will teach *me*! F*ck... it's obvious to see what happens, I am LIVING in this shithole, obviously, you are living in space.

Wow!
Lots of butthurt is coming up.
Or even more - FACEPALM...

Plomb, pal... I think using "fuck" word too often may provide a negative impression even to those people who'd share your opinion, if it'd be more polite. Well, I know I must use this word too often in my own world, but this is not the case.

The person above (btw it's not known if we have to deal with a woman or a man here), obviously never lived in Latvia, but only knows this land from the "positioned" newspapers or online magazines. First of all, I must mention, almost ALL Latvian girls/women are opposed to marriage. Strange, but this philosophy lives from the USSR times.

Second. Mentioning Siberia, Soviet Union is not that fashionable at all here, for a long time. Obviously, before I came here from Belgium, I was not even introduced to this country as the part of ex-USSR. I was getting all this stinky "knowledge" right in place. If you don't know Russian language, if you don't know Latvian language, you can not read newspapers and are only up to what you see and feel.

What do I see and feel, actually? The broken land of broken people. Everybody is trying to get on his own stage, while dirty politicians are splitting it even more. I must say, for now, obviously Latvia is not the place for creative people who would like to achieve something with their own powers. Nobody will simply allow you that. This little mass is too powerful in its stupidity. For those foreigners coming in, including Chinese, Latvia is just a borders jump to EU. That's all.

I will skip any comments about "independence" - Latvia has actually exchanged its USSR status being to EU and NATO. I was running from EU as the political monster eating personality. I was thinking, a little country of nothing, fresh air and a bit of free squares, is the ideal solution. How wrong I was!..

But fortunately or not, I have found my woman passion here, we have a little child, daughter... and you know what. I am not going to share my powers with this country anymore. I am the Citizen of Earth. We would like to move to some other 3rd World Country, which is not touched by the EU extremism. EU, actually, is a repeat of USSR, but only from the other side. Now take a look at Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece... all these countries are under massive pressing now, the pressing comes from EU. It's same pressing as Baltic countries were experiencing in USSR times.

I think, mentioning Siberia tragedy is also a provocation, because Russians lost from Stalin repressive methods much more than other people. Russian nation has lost in itself, Russia is going to crash, it's obvious for me.

Just to remind - we are on this forum to share our opinions, impressions, and ask questions. If you think it is "Kremlin" propaganda, you are definitely wrong. This forum was created by the few of people including me to support truly independant opinions. That means, saying "keep your opinion to yourself" sounds like a very rude, ungrounded opinion on itself. This place is not for opinions like this. Everyone is free to share, but not letting other people change their opinions just because they look different to you. So I can understand quite a rude and negative reaction from the admin of this site, who keeps it for a long time and deserves a lot.

Thanks for attention.

I don't know why are you concerned about where i am writing from, people can travel, right, can study or work other places but can still keep their loyalties.

I admit I overreacted, I just got very upset reading some of the posts with very negative message about Latvia and Latvians.

I am a Latvian female and i live in U.S. at time being and I have lived in other places in the world. I see Latvia in my future, I would love to go back, we will see how my carrier works out.

You saw how me and Plomp got upset with each other, we might be rational people otherwise but when it comes to Latvian politics, we go crazy. I can tell you what is my problem with Russians in Latvia: In spite of living there, they have zero respect for the country and it's citizens. Not all of them - i know - generalizing is not good.

My only question is - if voting is so important, why don't they learn Latvian language and history and become a Latvian citizens? Integrate, forget about Russia and the old days (that were "better").. Respect the place you live in, where born and are going to die in. Not going to do that? Stop bitching and move! Go to Russia. Please, we will pack your bags..

Plomp - you talk about Latvia but you are not really Latvian, why are you admin of this forum if you don't like "that sh*t hole"?
Do you have any idea what Latvian patriotism is about? Do you know what Jaanji and Liigo is about, do you take part in Singing and Dancing festival? Do you ever tear up when listening to Imants Kalninjsh music, do you read Chak's poetry about Riga?? DO you??? Do you get what Baltijas celjsh was about?? You realize we are a nation with our history, victories and struggling BUT we are a nation and we will always be one even if the "stronger dog" is repressing us.

You don't get anything about that, you are not a Latvian, so don't represent your self to the rest of the world like you are.

Those who said that my English is bad --- how good is your Latvian?

Hmm, that is about it..

For the rant about Americans, I really don't have anything against you, it is just a lot of people have no clue about history east of Berlin wall and they often think that i am a Russian, which i am not and i am grateful for that, they have their own set of problems and are defensively arrogant about their history and can't admit their biggest f*ck ups, Stalin, really, Plomp think we should honor one of the biggest mass murderers in the history of human kind?? WHAT???

Alright, my sum up - Latvia as all the other places in the world have their problems, ups and downs, good and bad things, said that - Latvian people are kind heartted, smart and funny, sarcastic and ironic in a good way. We are a very small nation and we have influenced from bigger neighbors and ruling foreign powers, all that said - we have strong identity and we will always be our own nation, our own language and culture. Latvia be blessed, I send my love overseas.

latviangirl212:
I don't know why are you concerned about where i am writing from

It seems you don't know so many things that I will need to explain them to you in more wider letter than you can imagine. Ok, it will take my time, and sorry Bro - I can't live without the word "shit" because I opposed to call things how they are called, not how they are told not to call by somebody else. This is fucking democracy model - it's a freedom of speech, but with exclusions. Fuck off then.

Let's start.

First of all, I must admit, I truly scorn remote patriots. It seems you don't understand the idea of why is Latvia is going so bad comparing to other EU countries in its development - because there are TOO MANY remote patriots on our heads, who love this country from the other place of the world. I must say to this people: come here and live here and promote your ideas HERE. I am accepting only local patriots, who LIVE here, who WORK here and who INVEST in here.

If you are too far from here, then you are the first person who must shut up, not me. So you are so upset about Latvian politics and language - but you are building your career in US. Why it is so? Could you be so loyal to answer this question without not asking other questions or giving me other instructions, please? Just answer the question, please.

latviangirl212:
I just got very upset reading some of the posts with very negative message about Latvia and Latvians.

It's very your problem, it doesn't affect others. You are just a tiny small person in the world of 11 milliard of people who don't even suspect about your existence.

latviangirl212:
I have lived in other places in the world. I see Latvia in my future, I would love to go back, we will see how my carrier works out.

If I would be the Latvian government, I would issue a LAW requiring all native Latvians to come back here, and requiring other countries to give them out. Then we would come to some truly effective solution. By now, I see that your ideas are only about mushrooms in your mouth.

latviangirl212:
I can tell you what is my problem with Russians in Latvia: In spite of living there, they have zero respect for the country and it's citizens.

The hook #1: Russians are minority in Latvia. If we refer to Wikipedia (from 2011), they are just about 27%. But how about the other 11% ? They are: Belorussians, Ukrainians, Poles, Jews, Lithuanians, Gipsies, Germans, Estonians and a bit of others. Latvians are only about 62%.

What kind of human right Latvia could have to Latvians? Nothing. It is an international country in its ground, few of nations built this country and invested in it; National Latvians destroyed it all and assigned to them ONLY. You call this justice?? Me not. Rather noone thinking person would actually call.

The hook #2: your beloved Latvian National government took an action on the population census in 2011, but still, results of this population census are not widely published. How would you comment it? Without your national emotions, please.

I think, Latvian government is just hiding the real results because they are afraid of getting too negative response from the European Union and all over the world. It is obvious, that in Latvia, now there are living less than 2 million people. It's less country than a middle European city. To that, it's obvious, that Latvians left are less than other nations. Official results may be just fake, a fake to appear nicely in the human world eyes... That would make the national politics down to Earth. But they can't allow it, because your little national head could explode, and that would lower down all the nazi movements in Latvia.

It's just an expectation, I don't know real results, so I may expect anything crazy which comes to my head.

So you need to take a wider look around in Latvia and conclude, that not only Russians are your main opposition.

latviangirl212:
voting is so important, why don't they learn Latvian language and history and become a Latvian citizens?

Voting important?.. WHERE??? In Latvia?? Are you kidding?

Whatever we vote, the pro-US government decides on its own!

Even if it would truly change things, I could answer your question - WHY.

Imagine about million (1,000,000) of people who voted for Latvian independance from USSR in 1991 - they all were non-Latvians. Further to that, the nazi-Latvian government *immediately* accepted the law to let those people to lose their voting rights, and become a new shameful, truly world-unique the sub-nation of this land - so called "ALIENS". A people without citizens position, without official passport. Human garbage. How they would react? That way like they are doing until now.

Now imagine people of 40-50-60 years old. Nowadays they became retards. Do YOU truly think, a nice and young CUNT, that it is so easy to learn a new language in that age, huh?.. I would like to see you in the age of a crone learning some new language to just survive. It would look exciting, I know it!..

Look at those older people who are trying to get into the drugs instructions which come in Latvian ONLY. That's genocide - people just don't know what kind of drugs they are taking.

Latvian National Politics is thoroughly fascism and genocide. A Genocide of a new dimension, of a totally new history, a new totalitarianism.

latviangirl212:
Integrate, forget about Russia and the old days (that were "better").. Respect the place you live in, where born and are going to die in.

Right, about 500,000 of Latvian citizens, incl. very young generation, incl. root Latvians, didn't truly bitch. They have just moved, including you bitch, a remote patriot. How about me and other thousands of people having conscience, which didn't allow them to throw their sick parents on hold of this fascistic country? I am here only because of my old sick parents, who don't know Latvian enough to survive here. If there would be no parents - definitely - you would never come to this forum, you would never meet me speaking about your national troubles - NEVER! I scorn this land BECAUSE OF THAT!!!!

It's not about the older better days at all. People integrate into countries and nations, who PROVIDE them something instead. Latvian country doesn't provide anything except the jump to EU zone. It doesn't provide anything which come for pleasure, not violence. It would be a pleasure to learn Latvian, if we would take a look around and see a progressive country of well-thinking people. It's not about that. Your vinyl plate is playing in just one direction: Latvian language, Latvian language, Latvian language... for 20+ years already. What do we see ? Bro is correct: the broken land of broken people. Destruction at all levels. Nothing inspires so much that others *should* learn this young, poor, imperfect language of all kinds!!

Now take a look at yourself - you have moved to US, but still, you try to learn English, and despite it's not that perfect and often used with a switch of auto-translator, you still *must* learn it if you *want* to live in US. Because your fucked Latvian language in US is a shit hole, whatever best you would like to achieve with it, but not there. US stimulates you to learn their language, this country gives you opportunities instead of learning their language and methods of living; now - what kind of opportunities Latvian language gives to its citizens? Could you answer this, please?

latviangirl212:
you talk about Latvia but you are not really Latvian, why are you admin of this forum if you don't like "that sh*t hole"?

Answer to the second question is simple - because it is MY FORUM.

Answer to the first question is not that simple. Like I mentioned here a few times, I come from a mixed family, where Russians, Latvians, Poles and Jews - all are involved by generations coming. If you look over around, I doubt you will find a truly "clear" ethnic Latvian living here. And if we speak about "cleanliness" of the nation, it truly reminds me the Arial Hitler methods of destroying other people by their national signs. Again, it's just a confirmation that you are FASCIST in its modern term. You speak about national cleanliness, but you don't even know who YOU ARE.

As I was born in Latvia, I am considered Latvian, but that's all about my consideration. I am the Citizen of Earth, Latvia is not Earth, it's just a piece of shit on this Globus. Hopefully, I have explained it right.

latviangirl212:
Do you know what Jaanji and Liigo is about, do you take part in Singing and Dancing festival? Do you ever tear up when listening to Imants Kalninjsh music, do you read Chak's poetry about Riga?? DO you???

Of course, I did. I know everything on what you have described. And I have the C-2 Category of the Latvian language, if this will make you happy.

But shit, what kind of one-sided opinion you have! Obviously, an opinion of all brain-washed Latvians by their beloved National politicians.

Do you know about the new monument in Riga, called "Rīdznieki" ("Riga Inhabitants"), based on the novel by Augusts Deglavs? This novel was first published more than 100 years ago. In Soviet Union times, it was re-published in 1958 and 1983, including Russian translations. In the new Independent Latvia, this novel was never published. In 2002, few of its chapters were only present in a national newspaper called "Lauku Avīze" ("Countryside Newspaper").

Again, are you trying to teach me the Latvian history? I know it perfectly.

Singing and Dancing festival is an old-fashined, boring masquerade of truly outdated people, who sing the same song for hundreds of times during a week. Not truly creative for me, sorry. I must spend my life to much wider and important sides of life. And if we speak about "Dievs, Svētī Latviju!" anthem, which is SOOOOOOOOO POPULAR on this balagan, do you truly know where this song is coming from? It was written by an ethnic Latvian composer in the Russian Empire (Russian Empire!) following the motives of an United Kingdom anthem! Shit - you don't even have AN IDENTICAL anthem, and you call it NATIONAL! SHAME on you!

And how about these composers - Selffish, Alexander Matrosov, Gas Of Latvia (Andris Indāns), Ingus Baušķenieks, Gosh?... How about the alternative side of Latvian culture - are you really up to it? Do you learn your country, or just hearing to your national stinky slogans overseas??? For me it seems the second is right.

Jaani and Liigo! Common!!! The "national" holiday of Midsummer, which is St John's Day, which is celebrated in the whole world - from which times it became truly Latvian-national? And how do you celebrate it? Drinking BEER - yet another National Latvian drink??? Eating CHEESE - yet another National Latvian dish??? Haaaa.... Common, you have just copied all this from other nations and feel GORGEOUS about it? right??

latviangirl212:
You don't get anything about that, you are not a Latvian, so don't represent your self to the rest of the world like you are.

Don't go here to discuss the "Natinal Latvian" culture - I am afraid, Yuta from this forum could teach you MANY NEW things on that!! Even more than me! Don't forget this forum is created by WELL EDUCATED people who have WEAPONS to fight against such TROLLS like you are!!!

And I have NEVER presented myself here like I would be Latvian, it's your brain who presented me to yourself that way. Coming from Latvia and being root Latvian - are truly different things!

latviangirl212:
they often think that i am a Russian, which i am not

Ha-ha-ha! Latvia STILL appears in Germany like an ignorant country - that's great, nothing changed in 12 years when I was there for the last time! WOOOOOOW!!! In 20 years, you still didn't achieve NOTHING to make the Latvia truly famous and unique, all your discussions about "Berlin wall" are so sick! Not saying all your brain washed in and out needs a reboot...

latviangirl212:
Stalin, really, Plomp think we should honor one of the biggest mass murderers in the history of human kind?? WHAT???

Man or girl or whoever you are... you must seriously turn your head up and down; PROOFS are that I never spoke about Stalin on this forum. This is the first message which will contain this name in MY post. Proof.

Obviously, Stalin lives in your head while other modern people have forget about this person long time ago, and looking into the future, not the past, like you.

I think, we must continue the further discussion either if you only have PROOFS of what you say, or if there are no PROOFS, than it is only your sick head, and nobody could do something about it, except you. Shut off.

latviangirl212:
we have strong identity

Oh yes, the strong identity which still identifies you as Russian overseas... bump...

P.S. For you as an American, it would be nice to read books by Gene Sharp. Especially, I recommend "From Dictatorship to Democracy" and "Civilian-Based Defense". The last one was used by the Lithuanian, Latvian, and Estonian governments during their separation from the Soviet Union in 1991. Lithuanian Defence Minister Audrius Butkevicius declared at the time, "I would rather have this book than the nuclear bomb". [Wiki]

This is actually where we all are now. A shit hole of an American $5-book.

Good luck in widening up the horizons.
