Maybe someone can shed some light on the below:

What is the real story behind the myth of the horseshoe at Kalku Street?

I read in a book:" Riga is named after the Ridzene or Riga river, which was filled up one hundred years ago, but for the expert it is still possible to follow the river bed of the Ridzene along some streets of Old Riga." Is this true? Which are these streets?

Hello, and welcome to the Old City I'm happy someone is up to its history...

Well, Riga is truly named by the similar name of the river, which was called Riege. As you may know, Riga was Hansa-town based by Germans, so it's title also comes from German. In turn, Riege was named after the island called RĂ¼gen. They were so long times ago. Riege, or Ridzene, was just about 3 Km long, and later, it was destroyed gravelly.

I suppose, these days just a little marsh is left from it, and it could be located on the cross roads of Minsterejas str. and Kungu str. in the back yard of the house, where later there was located a workshop of Igor Vasilyev.

Not sure if this is true, I must go over there in the nearest days and check out report us if you found it.

All right! I was so curious to find the Riege marsh that while being in Riga recently, I have followed Yuta's description and hopefully made some pics to help to find it to the other people interested

Here we go: you need to follow by the Kungu street in direction to the side of the Riga Autoosta (Riga Central Bus Station) and Riga Marketplace, but not until the end of it completely. You will note another little street turning on the right, which is called Minsterejas.

Follow a bit forward, just 10-15 meters, and pay attention to the left side, which will be surrounded by a fence.

Take a look over it, and you will see this little marsh. I believe it is everything which left from Riege. Going a bit further and turning on the left on the next street cross, you will see a little street going to the very deep and dark district; there possibly you will see Igor Vasilyev's workshop, specifically, everything which is left from it.

Riga Council should take more care about this place. It's a bit nonsense to have such a dirty and isolated place located 5 mins by a walk from the historical Old Town. But - This is the place where Riga all started, it seems!

Hopefully I have shown this place on the pics below - ask me more questions, if needed

For your eyes only: everything which was left from Riege, now a little marsh.

Moving forward and turning on the left side will take you to the Dark Age.
