Laura Pahomova R.I.P.

The 23-year-old Latvian model Laura Pahomova, the older daughter of the Latvian rally racing motorcycle rider, farmer and businessman Janis Vinters (who had by that time four daugters in total and the child boy), plunged nine floors (100ft) from a luxury hotel balcony to her death at the Light Boutique Aparthotel in the Northern Quarter of Manchester, where she was staying in a rented apartment at 99 pounds/night. Her body was found on Sunday September 30, around 11.30am in a "harrowing" scene. Police are not treating the death as suspicious, but have launched an investigation to discover the causes of the tragedy. A number of people in the city for the Labour party conference had been staying at the hotel complex in the same time.

She apparently fell from one balcony onto another nine floors below suffering multiple injuries, and was pronounced dead at the scene. She is thought to have been alone in the apartment at the time of the incident and may have been suffering personal problems in the days before her death.

Ms Pahomova reportedly came to the UK from Latvia several years ago to study and live in Blackburn, Lancashire. She lived with a housemate in Blackburn, who asked not to be named, but said to the police: "Laura was my best friend. We are still trying to find out what happened, but the police said she fell." She spoke Russian, German, Latvian and English. Laura did GCSEs at Blackburn College before becoming a model. After that, she had worked with several photographers and fashion designers in the region.

On a models' networking page, Laura described herself as "fun, enthusiastic and easy-going with a funny accent". And on her Facebook page she quoted from the poem Invictus by William Ernest Henley: "I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul. Normal life is boring." She listed her favourite quote as: "If you die in an elevator be sure to press the Up button" – which was originally written by the late US satirist Sam Levenson.

Viewing pictures of Laura, for yet another time I must say it's a very sad fact, that young Latvian girls find her deaths in UK. It's not the first case when a young girl from Latvia dies there. And who knows how many cases are there, which are not published in press.

However, I must say that despite the police is not treating this case as "suspicious", it's really suspicious that a 23-years old girl could rent an appartment, which costs in a week more than a average rented house in UK. I wouldn't say Laura's model parameters, if compared to other models, are outstanding. I tend to believe she way really a funny and easy-going girl, but this could allow herself to be lost completely.

Anyway, our forums team bring up the sincere condolences to all relatives of Laura. It's unbelievable when a beautiful girl dies being so young. Specially if it's a LATVIAN girl
