There were a lot of operators with cameras actually. I watched it on the local TV5 channel (the only local Russian TV channel in whole Latvia), they have had reports every hour. Reporter was a girl! Sad I don't remember her name now... but all the time she was in the epicenter of these actions... even when those drunk boys began to throw stones, she was hiding in the crowd amongst other hikers. The studio interviewer asked her, how does she feel in such situation. She answered, that she likes her job Not mentioning what operator felt. Well this was awesome, but I'm afraid there are no recordings of this translation in Internet...

The crisis is only in the beginning study I'm afraid we should expect few difficult years before something start to roll again. I think in many cases Latvia has lost 17 years of the new independence, being unable to keep and develop what was left from USSR. Now each month we are deeper and deeper back in 00's...

i do agree with you, crisis is just at its starting fase. Nobody knows how long will it last but i think that world will be not the same as we know it today. A lot of people is going to be poor in a few years all over Europe.
Let's keep working in order to avoid such risk!

Have to say that this financial mealtdown is global; but of course countries like Latvia gets harder strikes; since your economics have been growing rapidly for the last decade.

Here in Sweden we read about Latvia frequently, especially when it comes to Swedbank, Nordea and SEB (All Swedish banks). People are fearing that Swedbank will go bancrupt soon; and the Swedish government has put in additional 500 million Sek (approx. 50 million

People are fearing that Swedbank will go bankrupt soon

These gossips are circulating quite for a lot of time already, but let's not forget they also could be spread by Swedbank competitors. Actually Swedbank lost not so much money in Lehman Brothers, like any other bank, and they have enough of funds to continue.

For Latvia, bankruptcy of Swedbank is almost impossible because now it's the biggest bank here. Most of salaries and even government accounts are there; they just issued abnormally large amount of loans, and that was their fault. Let's see how it goes...

I think it will go ok in the end; since quite a few Swedens now have invested even more in Swedbank. Perhaps it will be tougher to take loans in Latvia in the near future; but for the long run it won't be any problems.

Swedbank IS a strong bank, competitor and has a good branch value. They will not go bankrupt.

Now, off for finishing my packing - going to Riga for the weekend...

Ainars Repshe is prime minister again!
It seems like the same people swapping the power...

I would correct - Ainars Repshe is not a prime minister now. It's finance and economics minister.
